The world’s third-largest zinc producer, Boliden, secures 1 billion NOK for zinc production in Ullensvang, Norway
The loan financing is facilitated by DNB, with the bank and Eksfin - Eksportfinansiering Norge lending 250 million NOK and 750 million NOK, respectively.
Zinc is essential for the green transition as offshore wind turbines and solar parks require large quantities of zinc for rust protection, making it central in the development of green industries. After the expansion Boliden will deliver 3% of the world’s zinc production.
Boliden produces high-quality zinc, and this investment will boost annual zinc production by 75%, from 200,000 to 350,000 tons, thus improving their already world leading climate footprint.
The expansion will also increase job opportunities. As of today, the Odda facility employs 400 people. The expansion of the facility, including a new electrolysis hall, foundry, and the world’s largest roasting plant, will create an additional 50 jobs.
It is important for DNB to assist our Nordic corporate clients with internationally competitive financing. We are pleased to contribute to the company’s growth and international success in collaboration with Eksfin, says Trine Loe, Global Head of Future&Tech.
